Relocation PRoposal Announcement and Name Change
HIV North Society would like to inform the community that we have submitted a development permit application to occupy the building located at 9613 98 street for office and day-time programming space.
HIV North Society would also like to announce that we have legally changed our name to the Northreach Society. Feedback indicated that the former title HIV North Society, prevented individuals from accessing supports and services due to stigma stemming from having the letters HIV in our title.
Currently, Northreach Society is located at 9607-102 street. We are a not-for-profit organization that provides services to individuals that require support to be healthy and safe. Our mission is addressing the Social Determinants of Health through innovation, collaboration, education, support and harm reduction. For more information regarding the services provided click here .
Throughout the relocation process our aim is to keep key stakeholders informed and provide the community with our objectives and ongoing information to assist them in understanding the opportunities that exist within the proposed location for both the individuals using the space and the community.
___________________Use of the New Space__________________
Within this new space, Northreach Society will provide client focused wrap around supports, day time programming, education and training opportunities. In addition to supports and services already offered, we are happy to announce that we will be partnering with many stakeholders, such as ACT Medical, to provide additional supports for Grande Prairie’s most vulnerable.
Services will be provided Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, with additional hours for outreach supports. After these hours, individuals will be encouraged to access community programming and supports at the Rotary House shelter.
Northreach Society is thankful of the support we have received from the community of Grande Prairie and we promise to do our part to keep our city safe and clean. Our staff will conduct routine walks to clean up garbage and ensure that drug paraphernalia is properly disposed of and we will continue to promptly answer calls for discarded needle clean up.
To discourage loitering at the new location, we will create a warm and welcoming indoor space and individuals will be encouraged to access the programming offered. Tents and temporary shelters will not be permitted on the property. Pan handling, crime and illegal drug use will not be tolerated. We will continue to work with bylaw and the RCMP to address illegal activities.
Northreach is dedicated to being good neighbors. We will collaborate and build partnerships with community, businesses and individuals with lived experience to build a safe space for all to participate. We are currently looking at how we can beautify the new location and will be reaching out to residents and businesses in the surrounding area for suggestions.
