Did you know?

DENTAL DAMS!

The following video shows how dental dams are used and how to make one out of a regular latex condom!
Disclaimer: The video includes information regarding the use of non-porous plastic wrap as a dental dam. More information can be found on this here. Northreach Society does not support, condone, nor condemn the use of non-porous plastic wrap as there have not been enough studies done regarding its effectiveness to reduce the transmissions of STIs.

LUBRICANTS!

Water-Based Lubricants: compatible with all condoms, most similar to body’s natural lubricant, easiest to clean up, safe with all sex toys, can evaporate quicker so may need reapplying

Silicone-Based Lubricants: compatible with all condoms, waterproof therefore may require soap and water to clean up, lasts longer, cheaper quality silicone can damage silicone sex toys or toys with ‘real feel flesh’ (did you know ONE condoms uses higher quality silicone in their lubricants to combat this, available at Northreach)

Oil-Based Lubricants: not compatible with condoms, oil can break or damage latex condoms and dental dams, can damage latex and other sex toy materials.

SEX TOYS AND SAFETY!

Sex toys are safe to use when used, washed and stored properly.

Sex toys can pass on STIs such as chlamydia, syphilis, herpes, and bacterial vaginosis, therefore using them safely is important. It is important to take proper care with penetrative toys, in case of cuts or sores, as these can pass on STBBIs.

Keep sex toys clean and safe by:

  • washing them after each use (click here and/or here for two useful guides on properly cleaning sex toys),
  • covering penetrative sex toys with a new condom every time they are used (including switching between anal, vaginal, oral play),
  • inspecting toys for scratches, surface breaks, material breakdown as these can harbor bacteria,
  • not sharing toys or having a different set of toys for each partner.

Remember to be mindful of allergies as different toys are made from different materials (i.e. avoid latex toys if you have a known allergy). (source)

Did you know sex toys need to be stored safely and separately?

Not only will proper storage protect your toys from damage, but it also prevents any possible cross-contamination if toys are not properly cleaned.
